Relaunching WAGArts

Up to now WAGArts has been an infomal organisation - a loose association of arts groups and other interested individuals.
About a year ago a group of us argued out a constitution for the Guild and formed the first set of Trustees to set the organisation on a proper legal foundation and framwork. Exhausted by our efforts on the constitution - well it isn't the most inspiring task, is it? - there was a bit of a pause before we really got down to work. In fact we started by asking ourselves again if a Guild was still really necessary at all. What convinced us to carry on was the thought that arts groups - the arts in general - did need all the help that they could get in the difficult and trying times in which we find ourselves.
So we held the first Annual General Meeting of the Wantage And Grove District Arts Guild at 10.30 am on Saturday 26 February 2011 in the King Alfred's Head (by kind permission of Tim Weekes).
As well as electing a new set of Trustees and Committee members to serve for the coming year the main business of the morning was "How can the Guild best serve the needs of local arts groups?" Where should it be focusing its attention? (See the article "How can WAGArts best support your efforts" for a few more details) Membership of the Guild is also open to individuals with an interest in its work.
Come and join the re-launched Guild!
How can WAGArts best support your efforts?

These are hard times for all the Arts in the UK and our local arts groups are facing problems too. WAGArts has been set up with the aim of supporting local arts groups. How can it best do this?
One idea is that by sharing knowledge and experience between groups, each group would have a better chance of success. But what is the best way to do this? Public meetings? Email exchange? Facebook style social website? Or a telephone contact network? ...
Every local group wants to make sure that as many people as possible know about its activities. Is there anything WAGArts can do to help member groups publicise what they do?
Another idea is that WAGArts should aim to work with local authorities, venue providers and funding agents to campaign for better facilities for all the arts. Again, how do we best go about doing just that? What are the main problems in these areas that bug you today? How do we ensure that we know what the current issues and opportunities are - and how do we make sure we always keep up to date on these?
If you are involved in a local arts group, we need your views, comments and input.

Could you use an empty shop?

Everywhere you look you will see empty shops. Makes the recession really depressing to see all these shut-up shops.Could we be a bit more creative and use some of these for activities that would cheer the local population? What about using one of these for some artistic enterprise? As a good rehearsal/ exhibition space?
There may be some help at hand ....
